6 Ways to Make Money From Your Personal Blog

If you are venturing into freelance writing, chances are you already own a personal blog. And if you don’t, seriously what the hell are you waiting for?
I cannot even tell you how important it is to have your own personal blog and write on it regularly. This gives clients an idea about your writing and see your online presence too.
I have been asked a lot of time about how I earn from my blog. Yes, I do freelance writing but my blog helps me earn too.
Here are some ways to make money from your personal blog:
- Sponsored Post
A standard sponsored post is probably the best way to earn through your blog. I would suggest keeping a flat rate for all your clients and deciding how many links you want to give to the sponsors.
Now these posts can either be provided by the sponsor or you can write it on your own. And the pricing will obviously be different for both of them. How much you ask? It depends on YOU and completely you.
- Marketing brands on Social Media
If you have a good number of followers on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, you may be approached by the brands to market them on your social media handles. You can charge it absolutely according to you, but again try to keep a flat rate.
- Providing Consultancy services to clients
Many sponsors are looking for bloggers who can help market them – by connecting them to other bloggers or by marketing for them on social media. Why bloggers? Because they have the inside edge. They know what can be well received on social media and what definitely won’t.
So, don’t forget to make a large group of blogger friends 😀
- Direct Ad sale
You can sell space on your blog directly to sponsors. Why would sponsors want to do that ? Google Ads can get blocked by Adblocker but the ads that you explicitly place on your blog cannot. That means better exposure.
Now again, you can either choose to advertise directly on your home page or on your new blog posts or both. It’s completely up to you and I would suggest charging differently for each one of them.
- Google Adsense
Because I just had to put it, okay? Google Ads already pay very less to Indian website owners and you can only properly benefit from them when you have a large US/Europe reader base or have got amazing traffic. Plus the Adblocker does not really help either.
- Affiliate Marketing
It is a pretty good medium of earning if your blog involves reviews of products or gadgets that people would want to buy. Basically, affiliate marketing is :
-You tell people about the products
– Say they can buy it if they want from this link you provide, which is your custom link
– Every purchase made through that links gets you a percent of commission without any extra charge to your readers
Flipkart, Amazon and even Snapdeal offers affiliate program. You can opt for one of them based on which website your readers would prefer and which one gives you a good commission rate. Remember that every category has a different percent of commission. And you only get paid when people actually buy from your link, not just click the link.

PPS – I know a lot of people look down on bloggers for sponsoring and marketing stuff but I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. If you can make a living out of it, there is no reason you shouldn’t.
