So you have finally decided to pursue freelance writing and though you might have a little idea on how to move forward but you are scared to death. Whenever we are about to take a leap forward, there is always this fear of uncertainty that surrounds us and no matter how sure or unsure we are, there is just something pulling us back.
But our fears are only as big as we make them and the best way to fight them is by looking them straight in the eye.
Today I want to share the newbie writer jitters that I had when I started writing and how I got over them slowly and steadily.
- That feeling of not being good enough
We have all been there, feeling like a complete mediocre who will never be amazing at something. You have got to understand that it’s not about doing something you are good at, its about doing something you actually love doing and not caring about what the world might think.
- No professional degree
If you ever think you will never get good offers because you don’t have a professional degree in English or something then you are the biggest fool on this earth. I have a legit degree in software engineering and look where it got me. Real winners are those who choose the path less travelled

You have to be clever while dealing with the client about this, you don’t want to seem like you are too eager for money. I have honestly never had a client who didn’t pay me back. Well, there was one, but then I contacted his business immediately and threatened to sell the content to any rival website, hence making the content I sold them plagiarised. I had the money deposited in my bank account within 24 hours of sending that mail. I will be writing a completely separate post to cover this topic in a better way.
- No idea about freelancing jargon
When you start freelancing, you might not understand some terms you come across and that might make you feel a bit overwhelmed. But that is completely okay, everybody needs to start somewhere and never forget you have google to your rescue.
- Overwhelmed by seeing the competition out there
Yes there are a lot of freelance writers out there and yes there is a tough competition when you are starting out but every writer has a special place in this world. Just like there are clients who have different requirements.
Grow a thick skin and don’t give up. If you really love writing, you will find a way through
